What We Do
Student-athletes bring their athleticism, academics, passion, and teamwork to create an environment of encouragement and belonging. From state champions to beginners, the team has opportunities for a spectrum of abilities blended by the sense of making each individual the best they can be by working together as a group. Our coaches bring a wealth of experience and knowledge with the goal of nurturing a love for the sport that lasts forever, along with relationships that last just as long. We want athletes to maximize their potential in and out of the water.
High school swimming and diving can feel very different for those of you who have grown up with city or country club teams. We are a competitive sport with teams of athletes competing individually and in groups against other teams.
At swim meets, points are awarded based on the individual's finishing place and added to the team score. This, combined with relay events, contributes to a strong team feel.
Athletes train daily during swim season with periodic meets throughout the season.
About Coach Wagner
For those who are new to the team, I am Heather Wagner, and I will be your new head coach this year. I swam for the University of Kansas way back in the early '90s and was a 200/500 Freestyler winning the Big 8 conference in the 200 Free in 1992. My husband Kevin and I moved to Colorado Springs in 2000 and I worked as a system engineer for over 20 years. Throughout the years, I continued to volunteer in the Colorado Springs community in many capacities including youth sports.
I still swim for fitness and wellness as a Master's swimmer and some years dabble in competition. As a USA swimming administrative official and DCC volunteer, you may have seen me working on the computers at many swim meets around town including at DCC Girls and Boys High School Meets. We have two kids (Taylor - a college freshman swimming at MIT and Madison a DCC HS junior). Both kids have attended DCC since 6th grade, so I feel like I know many of you and just love the DCC community. If I'm not at the pool, in my free time, I prefer to be hiking!
