There are more options in vocal music than at any other Academy District 20 school. We have 8 choirs that focus on a variety of stylistic learning opportunities. Students can participate all four years of high school and learn varied vocal approaches and music while performing in a different ensemble each year ranging from show choir to jazz ensemble to a top notch classical chamber choir. Our choirs are competitive on a local and national level. Discovery Canyon has consistently had between 10 to 20 students earn a place in All State choir. These choirs consist of only 600 students from the entire state of Colorado. Additionally, we have elementary through high school representation in regional and national honor choirs. Our choir program is consistently rated Superior at Colorado High School Activities Association (CHSAA) events.
About Our Choirs
Our choirs participate in the choral community at the local, state, national, and international levels. Each year, we perform at festivals and events at Universities across the state of Colorado, participate in All State Choir and also in regional and national American Choral Directors Association Honor Choirs. Our choirs are competitive and take any and all opportunities to travel for performances, both near and far. In years past, DCC choirs have performed on stages at Disney World, Carnegie Hall, and in Normandy, France.
Approaching Vocal Music in a Variety of Ways
DCC provides a wide variety of vocal performance course options in District 20, offering singers the opportunity to participate in a different choral ensembles each year of high school. We offer singers the opportunity to learn varied vocal approaches and styles ranging from show choir, jazz, a variety of music from different cultures around the world, to competitive classical chamber choir. At DCCHS, there is an ensemble for everyone - each ensemble is accessible to help singers grow to the next level. There is a place for all levels.
The Director
Debra Siebert holds a D.M.A. in Vocal Performance from University of Nevada, Las Vegas, an M.M. from Baylor University and a B.M from Brigham Young University. She started piano studies at a young age, but her musical journey took her to performing professional opera, then heavily into choral music and education. Dr. Siebert’s involvement in the schools and community span all ages, but her greatest joy comes from connecting with High School students and the power of choral collaboration using their talents, gifts, and potential as they approach adulthood. The influence of music and singing can be a guiding light in each individual’s life journey!
