The Art of Learning
In addition to offering ceramics, photography, and graphic design, our visual arts department collaborates annually to host an amazing PK-12 art show that features many styles of artwork. Additionally, we have recognized artists through the Young People's Art Association, Air Academy Federal Credit Union (to include Scholarships!) and the Pikes Peak Library District. They recently visited the Monet exhibit and continually expand their perspective through interacting with art.The Art of Academics
We have a unique structure as an IB continuum school that allows students the extraordinary opportunity to excel academically. Students are exposed to curriculum that builds each successive year. This vertical articulation is especially apparent in the visual arts. The DCC Visual Arts continuum begins in kindergarten and progresses to advanced senior level courses at our high school. Students are afforded the opportunity to gain skills in a wide variety of media, including drawing, painting, ceramics, printmaking, bookmaking, film photography, digital photography, and computer graphic design.
Students can take Visual Arts courses at DCC as single classes or as part of our Career Path or Diploma Path programs. Students graduating from our Career Path in visual arts leave DCC with applicable career skills and certification in digital media. Students graduating from our Diploma Program leave DCC with college ready portfolios.
Community
Students in all our visual arts courses are given the chance to study art in our community through local field trips to art museums. Additionally, all students participate in school led, city-wide, and regional art shows and competitions often receiving awards and scholarships. Our instructors and students feel a sense of community and belonging in our close-knit department.
