Device Requirements

Students at DCCHS will need a device whether we are learning at school, at home, or in a hybrid model. Minimum device requirements are listed below if you would like to use your own device. Please note: cell phones do not meet the minimum recommendations for this program and thus will not provide an optimal user experience. Teachers have discretion about cell phone use for specific activities in class as appropriate.

School Device Check-Out Process

This year, there is no fee for using a district device.

If you do not have a device to bring from home, you may check one out from the school for the entire school year. We do not support daily checkouts of devices except in exceptional cases. If you are in need of a device for the day or you have any connectivity issues please come to The INK Spot library in the 300s hallway and we will be glad to help you.  Please ask for Kristen Edwards or Kurt Boddicker.

To check out a device:

  1. Indicate that you need a device on your Return to Learn feedback OR email Kristen Edwards or Kurt Boddicker to request one.

  2. Agree to the Technology Guidelines and Responsible Use Agreement for your student by signing the PDF and turning it in upon checkout of a device.

  3. Pick up the device on your assigned orientation day or simply stop by The INK Spot to check out a device.

  4. If you require any special Apps loaded onto your device for a class, please indicate that upon your request.  (i.e. Adobe, Inventor, Revit, etc...)

  5. New students please check in to The Ink Spot for a school issued device, any materials needed for class (textbooks/supplies), directions on how to change your password and a short tutorial on signing into the network and what apps you will most frequently use.

Computer/Device Minimum Specifications

Phones are not allowed as a primary device.

Laptop/Windows Tablet

Operating System:

  • PC: Windows 10*

  • Mac: OS X v.10.15

Wireless Card: 802.11 a/g/n/ac

Storage: 64GB (128GB or more preferred)

System RAM: 4GB (8GB or more preferred)

Other Considerations:

  • Antivirus and updates must be maintained for network security.

  • Windows 10’s “Family Safety” interferes with Academy District 20’s filtering system and should not be enabled. Some parental filtering software uses Virtual Private Networks (VPN) that will not allow devices to function while connected to D20 networks. When selecting parental filtering for your student’s device, select ones that do not use a VPN.

  • Our experience has been that devices that do not meet the minimum specifications listed above do not provide an ideal student experience.

  • Chrome devices are not recommended. Academy District 20 only supports Apple and Windows OS environments.

  • Dell provides D20 systems, parents and staff can purchase these at www.dell.com/mpp/asd20
